Past Events- Women in Leadership

On April 4, 2019 Leaders in Lowell was honored to host a Women in Leadership Panel at the Richard and Nancy Donahue Family Academic Arts Center at Middlesex Community College. The panel featured CEO of Community Teamwork Karen Frederick, Enterprise Bank Vice President Bopha Malone, The Wonderfund CEO Erin Murphy-Rafferty, and former Massachusetts Governor Jane Swift. The panelists touched on a variety of topics pertaining to women, community engagement, and cross field collaboration. They discussed their own personal journeys in leadership and life, the barriers that can make things harder for women in the workplace, relationships between nonprofit, business, and government and how they can effectively collaborate, the importance of mentorship and various ways that people have gone about approaching the issue of women's equality like legislation for quotas and paternity leave. We would like to thank the Merrimack Repertory Theater and Mr. and Mrs. Drew Photography for their generous help and support with this event!

Since leaving office she has been a member on many boards devoted to promoting education for young people. Her life, career, and experience is just part of what makes her a perfect person to discuss “Women in Leadership”

Bopha Malone is a current Vice President of Enterprise Bank and she is involved in many leadership organizations around Lowell. She serves on the Board of Directors for Girls Inc., Women Working Wonders, Community Teamwork, Middlesex Community College, and Lowell General Hospital. In 2018 she ran for the democratic nomination in the open 3th congressional district of Massachusetts.

Erin Murphy Rafferty is the CEO of the Wonderfund, a nonprofit organization aimed at helping disadvantaged children discover their talents, have fun, and enjoy childhood as all should have the chance to. In the past she has also been the Executive Vice President and COO of the Boston 2024 committee and the President and CEO of the US - Ireland Business Partnership. Her wealth of knowledge and experience in both the business and nonprofit worlds make her a great example of a female leader in our community.

We strengthen communities and reduce poverty by delivering vital services and collaborating with key stakeholders to create housing, education and economic opportunities.” Due to her many years of experience and service to the Lowell community she will be a valued addition to this panel.
